COMETITION

The Hurricane International Film Festival rounds up entries of films around the world, receiving thousands of films from nearly 80 countries and regions each year. The competition section of HIFF features cinema of eight categories: Feature Film, Feature Documentary, Short Film, Short Documentary, Student Film, Indie Short Film, Indie Feature Film, and Super Short Film, through all of which the most rigorous and scientific evaluation procedures are implemented to guarantee the usual discovery of extraordinary films that are both contemporary and groundbreaking.

The juries of the competition section are exceptional for their professionalism, diverse backgrounds, and international perspectives. Each year, film directors, screenwriters, producers, scholars, artists, critics, journalists and other multi-disciplinary experts gather together to form a knowledgeable and discerning jury that provides different perspectives based on the specialties of each judge, yet reaches a consensus on the selections.

As the most vibrant, and the most credible film festival in China, the influence of HIFF can be spotted from the number of entries in recent years --- in 2021, we received 6,025 films from 83 countries and regions. We also had 2,420 in 2020 and 2,137 shorts in 2019, with an average international entry rate of over 35% each year.
