Hurricane International Film Festival is the most influential film festival label in China. As a dynamic force of film festivals in Asia, HIFF is committed to cultivating young filmmakers who can think independently and create fearlessly. Until now, HIFF has built up the biggest pool of films and young talents in China that involves more than 10,000 films and 5,000 directors.

 

In the past years, many worldwide professionals in the film industry gathered at HIFF, including Shaohong LI (Chinese film director), Chang-dong LEE (Korean film director), Bing Xu (contemporary artist), Shuli HU (founder and publisher of Caixin Media), Timmy YIP (winner of Academy Award for Best Art Direction), Yang ZHANG (6th generation film director), Robert VALLEY (Director of Zima Blue in Love, Death, Robot), Shawn DOU (Chinese actor), Xuebing WANG (Chinese actor), Hongwei WANG (film supervisor), Ruben Ostlund (award-winning producer in Cannes International Film Festival), New Pants (Chinese band)and other important figures around the world.

 

In 2021, HIFF called up a total of 6,025 films from 83 countries, involving more than 5000 filmmakers. During the festival, nearly 100 professionals, artists, and scholars from the fields of film, art, animation, music, and media, as well as more than 290 young directors, 120 producers, and other professionals in the film and television industry joined. During the 7 days of the festival, HIFF held screenings around Shanghai Film Museum for 181 films, 11 feature-length films, 14 music videos, 13 after-screening talks, and 12 forums.
